Comorant Fisher

I know it's a real touristy thing to do, but I had to have my photo taken with this fisher.

It's so wild to see & hear stories from you about things I thing are so cruel & unusual, but are so common & traditional to China & their culture.

I still don't get that bird fetching deal. Are they hurt doing that? Who eats the fish? Do the people eat the fish the birds catch? Do they consider these birds that they use as their pets???

So many questions about a culture that's so different.

Say hi to David. Miss Ya!

No, the birds are hurt at all. They aren't considered to be pets. They are just like farm animals. Farmers don't consider cows or horses to be pets. They are just a means to their survival. Same thing here.

The birds just wear something around their necks, almost like a necklace, that prevents their necks from expanding. This stops the fish from going down into their throats.

People do eat the fish after they have been caught. It sounds kind of gross, but that's their way of life.

Any thoughts of where you will be taking your honeymoon? I hear Shanghai and China is lovely in October!
